Description

The pink pepper is often referred to as the Peruvian pepper and comes from the ripe fruits of the Peruvian pepper tree. This pepper is becoming increasingly popular in Europe due to the slightly spicy yet sweet aromatic taste. The trees grow mainly, as the name implies, in Peru and in the Brazilian rainforest, but since the discovery of pink pepper as gourmet spice these peppers are more and more frequently found in South Australia, South Africa and the southern United States.

Pink Pepper is characterized by a particular, very aromatic note composed of a hint of juniper, a delicate fiery touch, and a sweet aftertaste. The fruit is commercially available dried or crushed and is a popular condiment for fish and meat dishes, as well as for cream sauces and desserts. Fruit sorbets or desserts with dark chocolate can be perfectly spiced up by the addition of a little pink pepper. The slightly fruity, lightly peppery pink pepper also is a very good match in combination with white or green pepper.
